# Assets Management Toolkit

Assets Management Toolkit for Unity — batch rename, organize assets, health scans, and rollback. Docs for the Unity Asset Store package.

**Assets Management Toolkit** (v2.0.0 "Ultimate") is a Unity Editor extension from University of Games. It helps you rename many scene objects and assets at once, keep folders and labels under control, and spot project hygiene problems before they grow.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Get it on the Unity Asset Store:** [Assets Management Toolkit](https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/assets-management-toolkit-80137) — available now for Unity 6000+.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Who is this for?** Indie developers, small studios and technical artists who need consistent naming, tidy Project windows and safe bulk changes — without writing custom editor scripts.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Requirements:** Unity **6000.0+** · Editor-only (almost nothing enters the player build) · Distributed as an asset folder under `Assets/Assets Management Toolkit/`
{% endhint %}

## In plain language — what problem does it solve?

Unity projects get messy fast: duplicated imports end up as `Rock (1)`, textures sit next to scripts, naming conventions differ per teammate, and nobody knows which assets are unused.

Assets Management Toolkit gives you one window to:

1. **Rename in bulk** — with a live before/after preview so you see the result *before* anything changes.
2. **Organize** — move, sort into type folders, manage labels, inspect dependencies.
3. **Audit health** — naming rules, unused assets, duplicate files, empty folders.
4. **Undo safely** — session history that can roll back whole rename batches (including asset renames Unity's Undo cannot reverse).

You select content in the Hierarchy or Project window, configure what should happen, review the preview, then apply.

## Quick start

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Install

Install from the [Unity Asset Store](https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/assets-management-toolkit-80137), or copy the folder `Assets/Assets Management Toolkit/` into your Unity project.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Open the window

Use any of these entry points:

| Entry point   | Path                                                                |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Main menu | **Tools → Assets Management Toolkit → Open Window** |
| Keyboard      | **Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + N**                                              |
| Window menu | **Window → Assets Management Toolkit** |
| Context menu | Right-click in Project or Hierarchy → **Assets Management Toolkit** |
| {% endstep %} |                                                                     |

{% step %}

### Select → configure → preview → apply

1. Select scene objects and/or assets.
2. On the **Workspace** tab, choose **Rename** (or Move & Sort / Labels / Dependencies).
3. Add operations to the pipeline and watch the live preview.
4. Click **Apply Rename** (or the organize action you need).
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Practice safely (optional)

**Tools → Assets Management Toolkit → Demo → Create Complete Demo** builds a disposable practice environment (\~250 messy objects + messy assets). Generated content is git-ignored and safe to delete.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What's in the plugin?

The window has **four top-level tabs**:

| Tab                      | Purpose                                                                                                   |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| ✏️ **Workspace** | Rename, Move & Sort, Labels and Dependencies — one selection-driven flow with four action modes |
| ❤️ **Health** | Project-wide naming audit, unused assets, duplicate content/names, empty folders, overview metrics |
| ⏪ **History & Rollback** | Session history of rename batches with one-click revert (assets by GUID, scene objects by GlobalObjectId) |
| ⚙️ **Settings & Help**   | Presets (user / team / built-in), storage paths, and a built-in reference                                 |

## Architecture at a glance

```mermaid
flowchart TD
    subgraph UI["UI - partial EditorWindow"]
        W[AssetsManagementToolkitWindow]
    end
    subgraph Services
        TC[RenameTargetCollector]
        PB[RenamePreviewBuilder]
        EX[RenameExecutor]
        HI[RenameHistory]
        PL[RenamePresetLibrary]
        AO[AssetOrganizer]
    end
    subgraph Core["Core - pure logic"]
        PIPE[RenamePipeline]
        OPS["10 × RenameOperation"]
        CTX[RenameContext + NameTokenExpander]
    end
    W --> TC --> PB --> EX
    W --> AO
    W --> PL
    EX --> HI
    PB --> PIPE
    PIPE --> OPS --> CTX
```

**Dependency rule:** Core never references Services or UI. Operations are pure `string → string` functions — that is what makes the live preview safe and the Core layer unit-testable. Side effects live only in `RenameExecutor` / organizers.
